Celia Rehm

Celia Rehm has been sewing all her life, but only received a sewing machine during her freshman year. Photographs included in this newsletter are of designs from a fashion show she participated in last spring. She is constantly sewing up new dresses, purses, skirts and many other items.

Most of the designs shown at right have intricate beading on the top of the dress. Celia “plans to go to college at a school of design, and make clothes all her life.”

Celia Rehm, a junior at Bellaire and in her second year of sewing class, was awarded "Most Creative" at this year's Contemporary Arts Museum Teen Council Fashion Show. The award was the highest rank of the three honors awarded to the designers, in which there were more than thirty. Similar to last year, her designs included much detail with beads and hand sewing, and each was hand-made without any sort of pattern. Ms. Rehm's five piece showcase was exhibited on April 2, 2009.

2010 Update: Now in her senior year at Bellaire High School, Rehm has already been accepted to Savannah College of Art and Design, Pratt University, Columbia College Chicago, Drexel University, University of North Texas (safety), and is still waiting to hear from Fashion Institute of Technology. Acceptance at The Fashion Institute may sway her decision, but her currently leaning is towards attending Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) next year. Rehm's acceptance at the aforementioned universities has come with scholarship offers to each school ranging from $2,000 to $21,000...this should make things easier on her parents.

Celia participated in the Contemporary Arts Museum Teen Council Fashion Show again this year. This year, much more time was spent on planning and preparation, as well as many hours spent on hair and makeup considerations before the show. The greater attention to detail attributed to a better overall look for the line. Rehm was given the last award at the end of the show, which was for "High Class and Barrowed Shoes" (One of the teen council members had borrowed a pair of shoes from one of the Rehm models). A great final show for Ms. Rehm at the Contemporary Arts Museum.
