This cluster focuses on careers in designing, producing, exhibiting, performing, writing, and publishing multimedia content including visual and performing arts and design, journalism, and entertainment services.
Arts, Audio-Video Technology and Communica- tions careers are divided into six pathways: Audio and Video Technology and Film; Journalism and Broadcasting; Performing Arts; Printing Technology; Telecommunications; and Visual Arts. Each of these pathways offers exciting and challenging career opportunities.

First-year instruction designed to provide job-specific training for entry-level employment in advertising design careers. Instruction emphasizes creation and design of graphic materials for use as ornamentation, illustration, advertising, and computer graphics. Second-year instruction is designed to enhance job specific training for entry-level employment in advertising design careers. Third-year advanced instruction is designed to provide further development of individual talents and professional work attitudes. Opportunity to explore "in depth" a specific area of interest, such as film animation or computer graphics, and to prepare professional portfolio pieces aimed at the target job market is provided. | Commercial Photography I
A technical course which focuses on the use of tools, equipment, and materials used for the construction of A course designed to provide job-specific training for entry-level employment in the commercial photography career field. Emphasis is on basics of photography, commercial composition, print-making, and finishing. First-year instruction is designed to focus on drawing orthographic views and developments using computer software applications for architectural, electronic, and electro-mechanical drafting. Second-year instruction enhances skills and knowledge in computer software application for architectural, electronic, and electro-mechanical drafting. Third-year advanced instruction covers working detail drawings with proper dimensions and tolerances. Standard symbols, stock shapes and descriptions are covered and applied to fabrication and forming drawings. This course may be taken for more than one year. A technical course designed to provide advanced knowledge and skills acquisition of the contemporary resources, processes, and impacts of graphic communications technology. Activities may include graphic design, computerized image composition, continuous tone and process photography, pre-press production, image transfer, and finishing experiences. |

An exploratory course that focuses on the communication systems humans use to compose, send, receive, and interpret information and ideas. The emphasis is on visual and electronic communication technologies. Students will explore the types of work performed in the communications industries. Experiences may include technical sketching; computer-aided drafting; graphic design and reproduction; desktop publishing; photography; video and audio recording; and microwave, satellite, and laser transmission. |

| Computer Multimedia and Animation Technology
A technical course which develops advanced knowledge and skills in the use of computers for multimedia presentations and digital animation. Course introduces students to 3-D modeling and rendering techniques and resources. This hands-on course allows students to create, edit, and render characters, vehicles, scenes or objects, and to design and produce multimedia presentations that use images, video, and audio resources to deliver a message. This course is approved for Technology Applications credit. |

This technical laboratory course provides an understanding of the various careers in media technology fields. Students are introduced to media technology, commercial photography, advertising design, and computer generated graphics. |

Introduction to Visual Communication Processes This is a hands-on introductory course where students will explore visual communications methods in photography, video, and computer-video integration. The course will include formats, techniques, and artistic skills within several visual communications fields. In addition, industrial and new technology applications will be explored. |

INTRODUCTION TO ADVERTISING-IA A technical course designed to focus on the advertising industry. Instruction includes the study of the basic components of graphic design, commercial art, illustration, design production, and career opportunities in the fields. Hands-on experiences in both manually produced and computer-generated graphic illustrations, as well as a basic understanding of advertising design production are provided. |

Media Technology I Instruction is designed to provide job-specific training for entry-level employment in movie, video, and television production careers. First-year instruction includes operation of different types of cameras, mastery of audio techniques, electronic editing, creation of media graphics, lighting, script writing, direction, production, special effects, signal control and monitoring equipment, and set design. Second-year instruction is designed to enhance skill development in movie, video, and television production careers. TECHNICAL INTRO TO DSKTOP PUBL Introduction to Graphic Communications Careers This technical laboratory course is designed to provide an overview of computers and software packages used for desktop publishing. Desktop hardware and software are studied as they relate to publishing, drafting, and graphics. This course is a study of the operation and use of desktop software packages, how they fit together into the desktop publishing environment and the related industries that utilize desktop publishing. The course can be a part of a Tech-Prep coherent sequence in Graphic Communications with appropriate approval. |

Textile and Apparel Design This technical laboratory course is designed to address the textiles and apparel industries, textile design and production, apparel design practices and influences, and career preparation. Instruction includes knowledge and skills of the design industry, fibers, fabrics, textile and apparel manufacturing systems, product marketing techniques, technology applications, international impact of the textiles and apparel industries, federal regulations, and career options. Design procedures and management of multiple family, community, and career roles are emphasized. |
