What is the Career ID Portal?
It is a web site that provides unique Career ID numbers to individuals.  The Career ID number works across the IT industry and is used to help employers, schools, certification programs, government agencies, and others easily validate an individual’s IT skill and knowledge.

Is receiving the Career ID number free?  Are there any CompTIA requirements to test or certify individuals in my organization?
Receiving the Career ID number is free and CompTIA sets no obligations for anyone to test or certify.  The Career ID is designed to report certification status and is most effective when an individual tests and becomes certified.  Your organization may have its own requirements or preferences when using the Career ID portal. 

How Does The Career ID Portal Protect Individual Privacy?
The Career ID portal operates under strict privacy regulation.  Its use is voluntary and always requires authorization from both the individual supplying his or her information.  Organizations that make use of the Career ID number are primarily employers, certification providers, academic, and government organizations.  They must explain document and agree by signature that their use of Career ID information is for employment, elective credit, or other authorized uses.  Unauthorized use or misuse of Career ID information by any organization is not tolerated by CompTIA.  CompTIA investigates and shuts down access to such organizations.

What Are the Benefits of using the Career ID Portal to my Organization?
Once individuals at your organization receive a Career ID number, your organization can quickly and easily verify their actual certification status at any future time. 
Many organizations test individuals to document or validate IT skill and knowledge level. With Career ID numbers supplied to each individual, CompTIA can quickly lookup and report back to your organization the actual certification status of each individual.  Academic organizations gain valuable funding, and employers who train new hires for certification can quickly validate when a new hire becomes certified.

Why Was the Career ID Number Developed?  Who Maintains the Career ID Number system?
As the use of IT technology becomes more “high-stakes” many organizations need an electronic means to identify and obtain proof of an IT professional’s skill and knowledge, directly from the certification provider.  CompTIA helps pay for the technology and operation of the Career ID portal.  Data services are provided by Integral7.

What is the CompTIA Member Number?  Where Do I Get It?  Is It Required?

What are the legal requirements needed to use the Career ID Portal?
Generally, all individuals must complete and sign a Career ID portal agreement document. All individuals (or parents/guardians of they are a minor) must agree to allow your organization to request a Career ID number on their behalf.  In addition, they must agree to allowing your organization to have access to their Career ID number and use their Career ID number to validate their certification status. 

To receive certification validation reports using the Career ID numbers assigned to individuals at your location, your organization must complete and sign the CompTIA Batch Verification application document.

Is there any cost or obligation I must agree to?
No!  Receiving your Career ID number is free.  Receiving a Career ID number also provides you with a free Career ID account and login where you can send proof of your certification to anyone at no cost.  While free, the Career ID number unlocks a wide range of valuable benefits.

Why do I need a Career ID number?  What are the benefits to me?

   Your CompTIA certification can be used to gain electives or credits in other IT certification and academic programs.  A growing number rely on the Career ID number to facilitate this process
3. Get a free login account to the rest of IT industry - :
   Along with your Career ID number, you will receive a free account, with user ID and password on the CompTIA Career ID site.  This site keeps track of your certification status automatically.   And you can cause CompTIA to send proof of your certification status to anyone with an email address and a web browser.
4. Setup certification testing with less stress:
   Supplying your Career ID number at the time of test registration easier as the testing provider will already know who you are.
5. A single number rather than dozens:
   The Career ID number is designed to serve the entire IT industry and help reduce the dozens of identification numbers, passwords, and accounts that an IT professional can pickup over time. 

Will I get Spammed?
No!  The Career ID number system operates under strict privacy regulations.  It is designed to provide, with your permission, proof of your skills and knowledge to employers, schools, certification and government bodies need this information to provide employment, elective fulfillment or credit.  These organizations agree to use Career ID data only for its intended purpose.   

What is the CompTIA Member Number?
This is your organization’s unique membership number supplied by CompTIA.  It helps identify your location.  Your administrator or instructor normally provides this information.  questions@comptia.org
