This cluster deals with entry-level, technical, and professional careers related to the design, development, support, and management of hardware, software, multimedia, and systems-integration services.
The Information Technology Cluser is divided into four pathways. Pathways are grouped by the knowledge and skills required of occupations in these career fields. Each pathway provides instruction as a basis for sucess in an array of careers and educational pursuits.

Introduction to Computer Maintenance
Recommended Prerequisite: Introduction to Electrical/Electronics Careers
This course focuses on the assembly and disassembly of modern computer systems. The study of electronic theory necessary to perform basic system maintenance will be included. The operation and checkout of system board circuitry, monochrome and color monitors, disk drive systems, computer architecture, and schematic diagrams will be presented. An introduction to DOS software installation and the use of DOS in troubleshooting system abnormalities will be integrated with basic electronics and hardware needed to properly diagnose malfunctions. |

Provides a basic introduction to the development and impact of telecommunications, and the operational and technical aspects of network and telecommunications systems; explores the various types and uses of networks and on-line services; develops skills in accessing, navigating, and applying on-line services with appropriate supervision; and develops skills in creating, editing, and installing web pages with appropriate supervision. Telecommunications Technology I
Recommended Prerequisite: Fundamentals of Telecommunications
First-level instruction is designed to provide an overview of the various telecommunications systems in use today and to introduce new innovations in the communications field which are in the experimental field. Both classroom and laboratory instruction will be provided through the use of experimental modules and computer programs. Second-level instruction is conducted through study and lab projects to demonstrate the basic principles of electricity, alternating current inductance and capacitance, reactance, alternating current circuit theory, diodes, transistors and transistor switches, resonant circuits, oscillators, and transformers. The third level of instruction enhances skill development in soldering techniques employed in electronics and the manufacture of various types of circuit boards. Telecommunications radio circuitry will be included. Fourth-level instruction will include the history and evolution of telecommunications, analog and digital transmission, switching hierarchy and systems, North American digital hierarchies, transmission standards, the local telephone loop, and microwave transmission. Four-level technical laboratory instruction designed to provide job-specific skill development for entry-level employment in the telecommunications industry.
